- If occult blood is detected in the stool, the cause should be investigated by colonoscopy. When iron deficiency of unexplained cause is detected, a colonoscopy should be performed.
- There is a need for colonoscopic examination in those who are protracted and have unfound diarrhea (diarrhea).
- If there is visible blood in the stool, it means that the colonoscopy is required.
- Colonoscopy should be performed especially in cases where the bowel habit (temperament) has changed compared to the old period and especially in cases over the age of 50.
- Colonoscopy should be performed in patients with normal gastric endoscopy (gastroscopy) when melena (black and foul-smelling stool such as tar) is detected.
- Colonoscopy should be performed when there is a suspicion of tumor, polyp and stenosis in colon radiographs taken using barium. In a case where colon cancer or polyp is detected, a colonoscopy should be performed to investigate whether there is a second similar problem in other parts of the large intestine simultaneously.
- Colonoscopy can be performed to determine to which levels of the colon a condition detected in the large intestine has spread.
